Abacus Science Kit - Forces are Fun (Year 1, Physical Science)

This kit includes all the resources required to carry out the Primary Connections^® (Australian Curriculum Version 9) teaching sequence for Year 1 (Physical Science) – Forces are Fun. The teaching sequence is flexible and adaptable to classroom settings whilst the lessons plans, science journals, and resource sheets are free to download from the Primary Connections^® website.

Student-centred Interactive Learning

Through engaging, hands-on investigations, students explore how pushes and pulls can make objects move, change direction, and alter shape. Children experiment with a variety of materials and everyday objects to observe how different forces work in action.

Students can:

• Investigate how different-sized balls and tools can be used to retrieve objects.
• Compare the effects of gentle and strong pushes.
• Discover that heavier objects require greater force to move.
• Observe how forces can change an object's direction or shape.

This inquiry-based approach encourages students to explore, question, observe and think critically as they build their understanding of physical science concepts.

Make Learning Fun

Students apply their knowledge of push and pull forces by designing and creating their own activities that use forces in various ways. This creative challenge helps consolidate learning while fostering problem-solving and collaboration skills.
