Abacus Science Kit - Tectonic Collision Course (Year 8, Earth & Space Science)

Support the delivery of the Science Connections^® teaching sequence for Year 7 (Biological Science) – Tectonic Collision Course, aligned with the secondary science (Australian Curriculum Version 9). This comprehensive science kit includes most of the materials needed to deliver engaging, hands-on lessons that investigates the evidence, process, and impacts of plate tectonics.

Student-Centred Science Learning

Through interactive investigations and practical activities, children will analyse patterns of tectonic activity and explore engineering solutions that reduce the risks of earthquakes and tsunamis. This teaching sequence includes seven lessons to explore specific topics as listed below:

Students can extend their learning with a creative STEM design challenge - create a building that can resist the effects of earthquake or tsunami.

At the of the activity, students can work individually, in groups, or as a class to discuss their investigations, evaluate their findings, and reflect on their learning. This student-centred approach promotes scientific inquiry, collaboration, and deeper understanding.
