Each pan balance features two plastic pans suspended by a horizontal arm, which joins to the stable upright and base. Sliding compensators are included to fine tune the balancing arms. With this set up, it’s possible for students to experiment with various objects and weights, predicting and testing ideas. Each balance includes 5g and 10g masses, and the durable pans are also suitable for holding up to 1000ml of liquid.

Well designed balance

With a large, non-slip platform base, the apparatus will sit sturdily on top of the desk. This feature also makes it suitable for safely measuring larger items. The pans are easy to remove allowing for simple refilling and efficient packing away at the end of activities.

Supply the class

A set of 15 is a good quantity for supplying a whole class with a balance one between two, or for providing useful resources for a school department. Children will need to use communication and teamworking skills to complete balancing tasks in pairs or groups.

Balances are an ideal introduction to the concept of weight, volume, and measurement. By comparing objects in the pans, children begin to use language like ‘weighs more than’ and ‘lighter than’, which is an important foundational step.
