Dotted dice have many functions in a maths class, primarily teaching addition, subtraction, multiplication, probability, fractions, and more. The dotted pattern in place of numbers encourages students to become literate in translating different mathematical symbols.
Our range of products includes jars of 30, 60, 80, and 200 multicoloured dice. These come in red, yellow, green, blue, and black. We also sell red jumbo PVC dice which can be bought alone or in a bag of 10.
Beyond being used to teach addition and subtraction in class, dotted dice can be used for playing a variety of card and board games. For ideas on what to play, check out the dice games for place value book by Dr Paul Swan.
If you want a wider variety of classroom maths games, our 6-sided dice are for you! Try rolling two dice and figuring out the highest place value that these combined numbers make.
For a different game, take turns rolling a pair of dice and jotting down the numbers, which can be multiplied, added, subtracted, and divided, with the winner being the first person to reach 100. This is a great game for students to play in a group.
The dice can be placed in a specific order to practise pattern making (i.e. 3, 2, 6, 2, 3) which adapts students’ probability and critical thinking skills. Lining up dotted dice can form the same patterns as dominoes, which encourages the formation of fractions.
