The first stage of teaching children how to read is developing their phonemic awareness - i.e. they must be able to identify and create sounds within sets of letters and words. At Abacus, we offer Beanstalk Books’ Phase 1 Decodable Readers, which have been carefully crafted to improve and strengthen the phonemic awareness of young readers.
Our Phase 1 Decodable Readers introduce 8 different phonemes (letter sounds) to young students. They also zoom in on speaking and listening skills, and feature stories that can be read out loud or retold in class. The readers feature colourful illustrations to facilitate visual learning.
Aside from readers, we also have workbooks and kits to supplement what the students have learned in class. The phonemic awareness kits in particular feature dozens of activities and games to make the lessons both fun and memorable.
