These tactile wooden shapes are a useful alternative to plastic. Smooth and hard-wearing, they are an ideal tool for teaching shape recognition in a busy classroom environment. When the activity is finished, the pieces can easily be stored in the transparent plastic jar with screw top lid.

A wide variety of shapes

Nineteen different shapes are included: sphere, hemisphere, ellipsoid, x2 cylinder, cube, x3 cuboid, x2 triangular prism, cone, square based pyramid, triangular based pyramid, parabola cone, ellipsed cone, octahedron, hexagonal prism, and pentagonal prism.

Ideal for exploring key themes within the content strand ‘Measurement and Geometry’. Children can use the shapes to compare and match similar objects in the room, classify specific attributes, sketch 2D and 3D shapes, and practise measurement. Finding similarities and differences between the solids encourages the use of comparative language, and classification skills through the identification of flat vs curved surfaces, faces, vertices, and corners.
